Preschool Program

The goal of every Bright Stars center classroom is to provide our preschoolers with the learning experiences they need to prepare for kindergarten. The program’s goals are to promote growth in language and literacy, math concepts, sciences, arts, physical development, and personal and social competence.

Active Learning Children are involved in direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, ideas, and events. While teachers share control and initiative with children, they are guided by key experiences that all children need to have as part of their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.

Adult-Child Interaction

Adults observe and interact with children at their level to discover how each child thinks and reasons. Adults interact with children in ways that empower children to take control of their own learning.

Learning Environment

Classroom furniture and equipment are arranged in several clearly defined interest areas that enable children to find, use, and return the materials they need in order to explore, invent, and learn about their world.

Daily Routine

Each day follows a similar schedule of events, providing consistency for both children and adults. The Preschool class routines gives children the opportunity to pursue their own interests, make plans, follow through on them, and reflect on their experiences with peers and adults.

Family

Our staff endorses family involvement because we believe it is critical to a child’s success. A foremost goal of our staff is to build positive, trusting relationships with children and their families. Frequent communication is encouraged. Parents are welcome to visit at any time and may wish to participate in activities such as sharing special books, stories or music, with the class and being a part of classroom celebrations

Computer Enrichment

There is one computer in the preschool classroom. Our teachers carefully select developmentally appropriate software that engages children in creative play, mastery learning, problem solving and conversation. In addition, computer technology is used to enrich and extend the curriculum and activities in the classroom. Our teachers model and support children’s use of the computer.

During preschool, 3-4 year olds gain more self-esteem. At Bright Stars Children’s Center, we help them build their confidence through the following:

Exploration
Hands-on Learning
Mathematics
Science
Group Activities
